Edinburgh’s Miniature Coffins

A film by Simon Ray

I was intrigued by these coffins from the moment I saw them on display in the National Museum of Scotland. Their dark mystery seems to pull on our own fears and projections. I wanted to explore the story of their discovery, the theories and ongoing research in a textural way in keeping with their eerie mystery.

This film is one of a series of experimental short films responding to Edinburgh’s Miniature Coffins. Special thanks to National Museums Scotland, Elaine Macintyre and Dr. Alison Sherridan
